  6. This is a pre-release version, which should only be used with data for which a backup
  7. exists!

  9. To install Total Commander, just run install.exe
  10. If you have installed a previous version of Total Commander or Wincmd (old name),
  11. you can install the new version to the same directory without removing the
  12. previous version. You can remove an old wincmd version AFTERWARDS with tcuninst.exe.

  14. What is Total Commander?
  15.  
  16. Total Commander (former Wincmd) is a file manager for Windows, a tool like the
  17. Explorer or file manager, which comes with windows. But Total Commander uses a
  18. different approach: it has two fixed windows, which makes copying files much
  19. easier.

  21. Total Commander is shareware. The shareware version is freely distributable, 
  22. as long as it is unchanged!

  26. - Long filename support in Windows 95/98/ME and Windows NT/2000/XP (16 and 32 bit version)
  27. - FTP client to transfer files over the Internet
  28. - Direct access to Network Neighborhood (without mounting a drive)

  30. - Directory hotlist (configurable bookmark menu) - CTRL+D

  32. - Encode/Decode files in UUE, XXE and MIME format

  45.   called. ZIP packer/unpacker built-in.

  62. Removing Total Commander: Double click tcuninst.exe !

  64. Installation BY HAND: Just copy the files to a directory on your hard disk.
  65. Unpack the file install.cab with a cab unpacker (like CABVIEW from Microsoft)
  66. to an empty dir, like c:\totalcmd . Then move all files with the extension
  67. .pif into the Windows directory. They let external packers run in a DOS window
  68. instead of full screen. Files in subdir e\ need to be moved to the dir where
  69. totalcmd.exe is.

  71. Removal by hand:If you remove the program (totalcmd dir), also delete the files
  72. wincmd.ini, wcx_ftp.ini and noclose.pif in your Windows directory!
